Journalism Is The Horse To Beat After Preakness Stakes
After getting bested by Sovereignty at the 2025 Kentucky Derby, Journalism won the 2025 Preakness Stakes impressively.
After getting bumped by Goal Oriented around the quarter pole, Journalism recovered and sprinted down the final stretch to defeat Gosger by half a length.
After overcoming those obstacles at the Preakness, Serling appreciates how Journalism “overcame adversity” in the comeback victory.
Journalism is not Serling’s top pick. Yet the NYRA handicapper believes Journalism is the one to beat out of the three Derby horses, including Sovereignty and Baeza.
And Serling Believes In Baeza
If Serling could back one horse, it’s Baeza. Despite his troubles in the Derby, Serling likes Baeza to bounce back in the Belmont.
“He’s lightly raced,” Serling said about Baeza. “He has a lot of upside in here, and I think he’s the one who can put himself in more position than some of the others to win this race, depending on the pace.”
Serling feels that Baeza can be close enough to make that first move in the race.

Journalism, Sovereignty, and Hill Road occupy Serling’s next three spots.
While Serling trusts the Derby horses to finish in the top three, Hill Road could be the one to pull off the upset and place in the race.
