The latest Illia Zabarnyi transfer news indicates that Chelsea and Tottenham are set to enter the race to sign the £50 million-rated Bournemouth star.

Zabarnyi only signed a new contract with the Cherries in the summer, keeping him on the South Coast until 2029. However, reports indicate that they’d be willing to listen to offers for the Ukrainian centre-back.

That has alerted both London rivals who are keen to add defensive reinforcements to their ranks. Aged just 22, Zabarnyi has his best years ahead of him.

This season, he has formed a formidable partnership with Marcos Senesi with Andoni Iraola’s side currently perched in 12th position in the Premier League.

If the latest Illia Zabarnyi transfer news is to be believed, Chelsea and Tottenham are going to be locked in an exciting battle to secure the Ukrainian international’s signature.

The Blues have spent over £1 billion on new recruits since Todd Boehly took over in 2022. They view Zabarnyi as an excellent addition as the west Londoners mount a top-four challenge.

However, Zabarnyi isn’t guaranteed a starting berth every week. Manager Enzo Maresca has often rotated his squad this season so that in itself may put off the 22-year-old.

Financially, Maresca’s side can match and even better whatever Zabarnyi would be looking to pocket if he does leave the Vitality Stadium.

From Spurs‘ perspective, they are perhaps a more attractive option. The north Londoners would assure Zabarnyi of more minutes on the pitch. Plus, Ange Postecoglou has defensive injuries to navigate.

Naturally, Zabarnyi is more likely to become an integral part of Postecoglou’s side. Subsequently, that could tip the scales in Spurs’ favour.

Bournemouth are under no pressure to sell but a bid in the region of £50 million would be hard to ignore. In an ideal world, Andoni Iraola would like to keep his prized asset on the South Coast for the long-term.

With the January transfer window on the horizon, only time will tell if the Cherries resolve can hold firm. Zabarnyi may find a move to London too hard to resist.

Last year, Zabarnyi was voted as the ers’ Player of the Season at the Vitality Stadium. He has played every minute in the Premier League this season and starred in wins against Arsenal and Manchester City.
