Liverpool have rejected an approach from Barcelona for winger Luis Diaz, with the Spanish side informed Diaz will not be sold.

Barcelona are known to have held a long-standing interest in the 28-year-old Colombian international.

But it seems Arne Slot’s Reds are in no mood to negotiate a deal, and have turned down Barca’s approach.

Liverpool claimed the Premier League title this season under new boss Slot, and are keen to retain Diaz, who played a big role.

Diaz has courted interest from both Manchester City and the Saudi Pro League in the past.

Barcelona sporting director Deco reportedly made with Liverpool on Wednesday.

But he was swiftly informed that the Anfield club do not intend to let Diaz go.

With two years remaining on his current deal, there is no requirement for Liverpool to cash in on the Colombian just yet.

He is said to be a big part of manager Arne Slot’s plans for the new season.

The club will therefore not consider selling him unless a monumental bid came in, which was too lucrative to refuse.

Such an offer would make Diaz one of the most valuable players in world football, meaning Barcelona are unlikely to meet Liverpool’s demands.

And with Diaz not pushing for an exit, he is expected to remain at Anfield for at least the next year.

But while Luis Diaz’s contract does not expire until 2027, progress has stalled over a new deal.

Discussing his future, he told The Guardian: “I’m very happy at Liverpool, I’ve always said that, and they’ve welcomed me well.

“I’m in with them because we are talking with clubs.

“Such market activity is normal when the transfer window opens.”

Luis Diaz has been a big player for Liverpool over the last few seasons.

The player was open in his assessment, reasserting that the ball is in Liverpool’s court.

He added: “If Liverpool offers a good renewal or since I still have two years left, I will stay happy and content. It depends on them. I’m the only one to decide and look for what’s best for us and the future.”

“We are trying to arrange whatever is best for us. I am waiting to see what will happen.”
