Virgil Van Dijk Bites Back At Michael Owen Over ‘Bitter’ Liverpool Theory vv2k

Virgil van Dijk has shot down claims from Michael Owen that Liverpool’s season won’t be special even if they win the Premier League title, during an interview after their Merseyside Derby victory.
Arne Slot’s side need 13 points from eight games to be crowned champions, following a 1-0 victory over Everton.
The win was a significant one after they crashed out of the Champions League to PSG and lost to Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final before the international break.
“It’s been a frustrating couple of weeks,” Owen said on Premier League Productions after the Merseyside Derby.
“Liverpool were poised to have a phenomenal season, if they win the Premier League it’ll still be fantastic but with a little bit of a bitter taste because it was building into something special.”
Van Dijk was unhappy with Owen’s comments as he appeared for a post-match interview.

Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen asked Virgil van Dijk how hard it was to lose in the Champions League and Carabao Cup after a season which was ‘building into something special’.
Van Dijk was visibly unimpressed and gave a direct response during his interview. He said: “So you’re suggesting the season is not going to be special anymore?”
Owen replied: “It will be absolutely, it will be special, but I thought it could’ve been building into something very special.”
Liverpool captain Van Dijk was quick to challenge Owen and said: “Well, I think we have to change that narrative a little bit.
“We’re fighting for the biggest prize of the season, we worked so hard for it. 20 teams are working so hard to be on top of the Premier League.
“We have eight games to go, we know what’s at stake, we have to go for it, we have to fight, we have to enjoy the whole ride and then let’s see. Like I said, it’s still looking very special in my eyes.
“I think what you said, at the start of the season, I think no one expected us to even try to fight on all four fronts, obviously we’re at the stage now where we’re still fighting for the biggest, and that’s the reality. It’s still a possibility that this season will be very, very special.”
Following the interview, Owen stood by what he said but itted that Virgil ‘had a point’ in regards to not many expecting Liverpool would challenge for the title before the season.

“Too many have been trying to discredit and make it seem as if *challenging* for the Premier League isn’t good or shouldn’t be celebrated that much. So glad he came out and said this. My captain.”

When Can Liverpool Win The Title? 5a3k65
Virgil van Dijk’s interview came after Liverpool extended their gap over Arsenal to 12 points.
Liverpool need 13 points to win the title as things stand – equating to four wins and one draw.
So presently, the Reds could be crowned champions on May 4 when they travel to Chelsea.
However, they could win the title if Arsenal drop any more points to Liverpool by that date.
Should Arsenal fail to win their next three games against Everton, Brentford and Ipswich, Liverpool could win the title as early as April 20 against Leicester.
