Aaron Rodgers Arrives At Steelers’ Minicamp

It finally happened. Rodgers suited up in the Steelers’ trademark black and yellow colors at the team’s minicamp on Tuesday.

Rodgers and the Steelers agreed to a one-year, $13.6 million contract, including $10 million guaranteed. The deal can increase to $19.5 million with incentives.

Rodgers, who will wear No. 8, spoke to the media after Tuesday’s practice to ask the one thing everyone wants to know: Why Pittsburgh?

“I think it starts with Mike Tomlin. I’ve been a fan of his for a long time,” Rodgers said via Steelers.com. “There’s a few iconic franchises in the NFL. I played for one of them for 18 years. This is another one of those. There’s something special about this area.”

Rodgers went on to praise the city, saying, “Many great quarterbacks are from Pittsburgh,” and spotlighted several of his former coaches with ties to the area, including Mike McCarthy, Tom Clements, and Don Capers.

After the Jets parted ways with Rodgers earlier this offseason, the 41-year-old quarterback took some time to ponder his future in football. While deciding on his future, Rodgers stayed in with Tomlin and Steelers general manager Omar Khan.

“I was dealing with a lot of things in my personal life and some things improved a little bit where I felt like I could fully be all in here with the guys,” Rodgers said. “I had great conversations with Mike throughout the entire process and Omar. It was good to get that done and get it behind us.”
