There aren’t many lofty expectations for the Cleveland Browns for the season. But the quarterback situation will certainly be something to monitor throughout the 2025 campaign, and Colin Cowherd of FOX Sports thinks he knows how things are going to go for Shedeur Sanders and company.

Will Shedeur Sanders Start For The Browns In 2025?

Sanders didn’t the Browns the way that many thought he would. Once projected as an early first rounder, the former Colorado quarterback dropped all the way to the 5th round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Cleveland mercifully selected him with the 144th overall pick, which was a decision that raised eyebrows.

It was assumed that the Browns would draft a quarterback with just Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett on the roster. They did just that, and it looked like they had filled out their depth chart when they picked Dillon Gabriel in the third round. But two rounds later, it was Shedeur Sanders whose name they called, and Cleveland will enter training camp with at least four QBs on the roster (five if you count Deshaun Watson).

Among the four, there is no clear favorite to be the team’s starter come Week 1. And while he doesn’t necessarily believe that Shedeur Sanders will get the nod, Cowherd believes that the rookie will be starting at some point during the 2025 campaign.

Cowherd Thinks Browns Are Desperate For Star Power

Cowherd explained that Browns owner Jimmy Haslam is impulsive, and in desperate need of star power on his team. That will come to a head sometime during the season, he believes, likely somewhere around Week 7.

“Haslam is starving for a star quarterback,” Cowherd said. “So this is a team that’s going to be boring offensively. You know what will make them not boring? Shedeur Sanders taking snaps, win or lose.”

The quotes from Cowherd came on the same day that another national pundit predicted success for Sanders in Year 1. ESPN’s Dan Orlavsky stated that he believes Sanders is a perfect fit for the offense that head coach Kevin Stefanski likes to run, and that the rookie should do all that he can to show his coaches that he should be the starter.
