Michelin-starred chef and TV personality David Chang named his top five NFL cities for sandwiches. See Chang’s rankings below.

David Chang Ranks NFL Cities By Their Sandwiches

On Monday’s edition of Good Morning Football, Chang shared his rankings for the top NFL cities with the best sandwiches. Chang believes that a city’s sandwiches can be used to judge if a city’s food is good or not.

“The sandwich is the great test for how great a city is in food,” Chang said.

Chang started with his “home city” of New York at No. 5.

There was some regret in Chang’s voice when he said New York City, knowing he might catch some flak from friends. Chang, who created Momofuku in New York, cited the lack of signature sandwiches as to why it didn’t crack the top three.

Chang said, “I love New York. It is always going to be my home, but outside of a pastrami sandwich, can you say New York really has a sandwich?”

Chang placed Chicago at No. 4, citing a popular sandwich from the hit TV show The Bear as its best.

“The beef — great TV show and great sandwich,” Chang said. “Chicago’s got it going on. Probably the most underrated and most important food city in America.”

At No. 3, Chang likes the home of the Saints, New Orleans, which is one of his “favorite places to eat in general.”

The popular chef cited muffulettas and po’boys as the city’s top sandwiches.

“You have one of the richest and most diverse food cities in America,” Chang said about New Orleans. “You can never go wrong in that city.”

Coming in at No. 2 is the home of the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles.

Chang is a Washington Commanders fan, so it “pains him” to compliment Philadelphia. While many people go for cheesesteaks, Chang has his eye on another Philadelphia staple.

“Philadelphia is truly a wonderland of sandwiches,” Chang explained. “As much as I love the cheesesteak, I think it’s the roast pork that is the true sandwich of Philadelphia.”

What city ranked first on Chang’s list? That title belongs to the City of Angels, Los Angeles.

After moving to LA a few years ago, Chang would have never picked Los Angeles as his top sandwich city. Now, his mind has changed.

“By the sheer amount of the kinds of sandwiches, I’m gonna say Los Angeles,” Chang said.

Chang likes how you can get a torta or pastrami in LA, and it still tastes elite.
