Longtime Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb will sign with the Houston Texans. View the contract details below.

Nick Chubb Leaving Cleveland For Houston

It’s the end of an era in Cleveland.

Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Chubb and the Texans have agreed to a one-year deal for $2.5 million. The contract can be worth up to $5 million.

Chubb leaves the Browns after seven seasons in Cleveland.

Drafted by the Browns in 2018, Chubb quickly rose to the end of the depth chart by the end of the season, rushing for 996 yards and eight touchdowns.

Chubb then rushed for over 1,000 yards in each of the next four seasons, capped off with a career-best 1,525 yards in 2022.

Chubb’s career trajectory changed in 2023 when he suffered a season-ending torn MCL and damaged ACL in September 2023. Surgery and rehab kept Chubb out for over a year.

Chubb returned in Week 7 of the 2024 season and finished the year with 332 rushing yards and three touchdowns.

Chubb leaves the Browns ranked third in rushing yards (6,843), third in rushing touchdowns (51), and second in 100-yard rushing games (30) in team history.

“We want to take this opportunity to thank Nick Chubb for all he’s done for the Cleveland Browns,” Browns owners Dee and Jimmy Haslam said in a statement. “For the last seven years, Nick gave everything he had to our fans, this organization and this city. He always represented our team as the consummate professional and in a manner that showed his ion and love for the game of football.”

The Haslams announced that Chubb will go into the Browns’ Ring of Honor one day.

Nick Chubb s A Texans Offense On The Rise

The Texans have considerable running back depth, with Joe Mixon, Dameon Pierce, Dare Ogunbowale, and Woody Marks.

However, Houston believes that investing in Chubb at a cost of $2.5 million is a worthwhile risk.

If the Texans can get a healthy Mixon and Chubb for an entire season, Houston could have one of the top rushing attacks in the league.
