The North London derby is always a feisty affair and this Sunday’s edition was no different, as Arsenal beat Tottenham in yet another classic.

Mikel Arteta made it three wins on the bounce as Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday afternoon, as Gabriel scored the only goal in a nervy 1-0 win for the visitors.

The first half in North London was tense to say the least and although there weren’t too many chances in the first period, there was certainly no shortage of action.

From the first whistle Spurs looked to dominate the visitors in possession and for the majority of the first half they managed to do that, but they struggled to create any real opportunities in a goalless first 45.

Things did, rather unsurprisingly, kick off midway through the first half, after Jurrien Timber went studs up into a challenge on Pedro Porro. Although no red card was shown, a brawl ensued the challenge and Vicario and Timber were both cautioned.

The cards went flying toward the end of the first half and it looked like at one point there might be more bookings shown than in yesterday’ record game between Chelsea and Bournemouth, with seven yellows handed out before the break.

Five Tottenham players were booked including Vicario, with Timber and Saliba both also booked for Arsenal in a tense half for both teams.

Arsenal’s set pieces have been something to marvel at over the past year and Tottenham’s defensive record from them has been one of their biggest issues during the past season, which made for a perfect storm.

It was the visitors who finally broke the deadlock midway through the second half, as Gabriel rose highest from a Bukayo Saka whipped corner and powered home a header to silence the home crowd.

Arsenal were able to hold on to their 1-0 victory late on despite Tottenham’s barrage of attacks, with the home side struggling to create any chances of note against one of the best defenses in the league.

The games don’t get much easier for the Gunners in the Premier League, with another eye-catching fixture coming up next week against Manchester City.

Arsenal will welcome the return of Declan Rice back from suspension for next weekend’s clash against the champions, although Martin Odegaard will probably miss out again with an ankle injury.

Tottenham on the other hand have a tricky clash against Coventry in the EFL Cup on Wednesday, before they face Brentford on Saturday in their next league game.
