Teen sensation Lamine Yamal produced another jaw-dropping performance as Barcelona beat Atletico Madrid 1-0 in the Copa del Rey semi-final second leg at the Metropolitano Stadium on Wednesday night, 2 April.

Having played out a thrilling 4-4 draw in the first leg at Montjuic Stadium, the Blaugrana needed a more contained display in Atletico’s backyard. The La Liga leaders understood the assignment, maintaining pressure on the hosts from start to finish and coming away with a 1-0 victory. Securing a 5-4 aggregate win, Barcelona has ed Real Madrid — who beat Real Sociedad — in the Copa del Rey final. Seville’s Estadio La Cartuja will host the Clasico final on 26 April.

Atletico 0-1 Barcelona (5-4 on Aggregate): Match Summary 5x28d

Barcelona came out all guns blazing at the Metropolitano Stadium, nearly pulling ahead in the first minute. Midfield maestro Pedri played a delightful long ball for Lamine Yamal down the right flank. The 17-year-old outpaced his marker before zipping the ball towards the centre of the Atletico box. With Raphinha lurking at the far post, Jose Gimenez produced a superb clearance to send the ball behind for a corner.

In the 12th minute, Yamal produced another excellent bit of play. Receiving the ball from Pedri in the golden Zone 14, Yamal shifted the ball onto his left foot before dispatching a curling effort. Unfortunately for the youngster, the swing did not come in time to trouble the goalkeeper.

Yamal’s brilliance came to the fore once again in the 26th minute, as he played a gem of a through ball from the edge of Zone 14, booting three Atletico defenders out of the equation.

Ferran Torres took care of the rest, applying a gentle first-time finish to send the ball beyond the onrushing Juan Musso and into the back of the net.

In the 39th minute, Yamal carried the ball into Atleti’s half before laying it off for Raphinha on the left. The Brazilian had a go at goal, but Musso managed to keep out his effort with his outstretched leg. Raphinha had another go at Atletico’s goal in the 56th minute after Fermin Lopez found him on the left. Musso once again came up good, stopping his effort from sneaking into the bottom-left corner.

Atletico substitute, Alexander Sorloth, found the netting in the 69th minute, but much to the dismay of home ers, he was narrowly offside. Barca defended diligently in the last 20 minutes and claimed the victory.
