Arsenal fans will have been slightly disheartened prior to kick off, when it was confirmed that Bukayo Saka was only fit enough to make the bench against Fulham but he had an instant impact when he was introduced.
The Gunners took a huge blow after just 15 minutes with one of their most important players pulling up with a serious looking injury. Gabriel has so often been Arsenal’s saviour in defence but he was forced off the field after pulling up away from the ball with an apparent hamstring injury.
Despite a shaky start, it was Arsenal who took the lead at the Emirates just before half time with their makeshift striker providing the goal yet again.
Nwaneri picked out the Spaniard inside the box and once again Mikel Merino showed his class higher up the pitch with an expert finish into the bottom corner for his sixth league goal of the campaign.
Arsenal looked much better in the opening exchanges of the second half after a flat first period, as Gabriel Martinelli particularly burst into life down the left with some good link up play alongside Myles Lewis-Skelly.
With just under half an hour to play in North London, Saka finally made his return to the pitch for the first time in 2025 with the winger receiving by far and away the biggest cheer of the night.
The Gunners finally put the game to bed in the 73rd minute and it was a poetic return for Saka who won’t have an easier finish this season, after converting a Martinelli flick on at the back post.
Fulham snatched a late consolation goal in added time as Rodrigo Muniz bundled home a Ryan Sessegnon cross, but the points stayed in North London with Arsenal.

Arsenal remain in title chase 5z1v
Arsenal remain nine points behind Liverpool in the Premier League title race despite the win but three points does keep their hopes alive in the run in.
The loss of both Jurrien Timber and Gabriel could be devastating for Arsenal who are set to face Real Madrid in the Champions League in just under a week’s time.
Fulham will have to wait until the likes of Aston Villa and Bournemouth play before they know the damage that the loss did to their top six hopes, but with three losses in five the dream may be slipping away.
