The latest Chris Rigg transfer news has revealed that Manchester United scouts consider the Championship wonderkid a ‘must-have’ g this summer.

Rigg has starred for Sunderland so far this season as the Black Cats have mounted an unlikely promotion push. The 17-year-old has netted four EFL Championship goals and recorded one assist in 2024/25.

The most famous Rigg strike came against rivals Middlesbrough in September. A superb and instinctive back-heel finish was branded ‘filthy’ by ers.

Already a Stadium of Light hero, Rigg has summoned the attention of plenty of Premier League sides. Arsenal, Liverpool and United are amongst those monitoring the Hebburn-born starlet.

A fee of £25 million has been touted as the required figure to tempt Régis Le Bris’ side into negotiations. Failure to return to the top-flight will surely see Rigg’s plethora of suitors come knocking.

If the latest Chris Rigg transfer news is to be believed, the scouting network at Man United are full of praise for the Sunderland star.

He is already being considered as a ‘must-have’ purchase at Old Trafford. Even though Rigg is yet to celebrate his 18th birthday.

United have famously spent millions in the transfer market in recent years without many of their purchases ever really paying dividends.

Naturally, fans will have an element of excitement as well as apprehension about the potential transfer of Rigg. The youngster has no Premier League experience.

However, the highly-rated central midfielder could inject a much-needed new lease of life into Ruben Amorim’s struggling Red Devils side.

According to TransferMarkt, Rigg has a valuation of £10 million but it’ll cost approximately two-and-a-half times that to tempt the Black Cats to sell.

The fee itself wouldn’t be an issue but the reported interest from rival top-flight sides could be. Failure to secure European football could tarnish United’s prospects of obtaining Rigg.
