The Crystal Palace ‘will they, won’t they’ remain in the Europa League saga has taken a fresh twist with reports emerging UEFA are deeming Eagles owner John Textor to NOT have a ‘controlling influence’ at the South London club.

Fresh Hope For Crystal Palace Europa League Bid  3y5m64

It’s being reported that things are swinging back in favour of Crystal Palace keeping their Europa League place – a slot they got for also winning the FA Cup.

Palace saw off Manchester City in May and with that ended their 164-year wait for a major trophy. A place in the Europa League was a further prize for their efforts, plus the Eagles will also face Liverpool in the Community Shield on August 10th.

However, since their historic day at Wembley, due to UEFA multi-club ownership rules that state shareholders can’t have interests in two clubs in the same European competition, Palace’s Europa League place has come under question.

This is due to one of the Eagles owners US businessman John Textor having an stake in French side Lyon, who also qualified for the Europa League.

But despite Palace having a recent Europa League proposal rejected, it’s now being said UEFA don’t believe Palace owner John Textor to have a ‘decisive influence’ in the day-to-day operations at the club.

While it’s also being reported that Textor is preparing to resign at Palace director and is in talks to sell Eagle Football Holdings.

UEFA Feel Textor DOESN’T Have A ‘Controlling Influence’ At Crystal Palace  1g3f64

John Textor has publicly said that he’s got no influence at the Eagles – going on record as saying “it’s the most expensive season ticket in football”.

In 2023 he said he’s got no involvement in Palace’s commercial interests, development or recruitment.

Saying there isn’t really any opportunities at Palace for him to get involved in any of this, which is why it was believed Textor tried to buy Everton lot so long ago. To get more involved in the running of a club.

Now it seems the good news for Palace fans is that UEFA are noticing this and with Textor also being reported as trying to sell his interest in the Eagles, then their Europa League saga could be heading for a positive outcome for the FA Cup winners.

Which is why it’s now widely thought that UEFA will be in favour of Palace keeping their Europa League place – with the South London side not having benefited from Textor’s involvement in Lyon.

Textor has already cut down his shares in Eagle Football to around 55% – with the group owning 43% of Palace, with Textor’s share reported to be less than 30%.

Raine Group, who are a US merchant bank, are in the process of trying to sell this.

As a result, Palace are saying they are not legally part of a multi-club set-up and have not had any advantages due to some of their owners having interests in other clubs.

With Palace’s controlling shareholders not owning any of Lyon – which is why they are saying they had no reason to engage in the March 1st UEFA deadline to settle any multi-club issues.

A firm decision on the Crystal Palace Europa League saga is expected in the coming weeks and by the end of June at the latest.

Consortium Lead By NBA Star Jimmy Butler Said To Be Interested In Buying Eagle Football’s Stake e2f5a

It’s also thought that with Palace owner John Textor and Eagle Football looking to sell their shares in Crystal Palace this has led much interest.

One of which is a consortium headed up by NBA star Jimmy Butler – reported to be in the region of $200m.

While there is also news now of New York Jets owner Woody Johnson making a bid to buy Palace.

Nottingham Forest Are Still Expected To Appeal  604k5i

Fellow Premier League side Nottingham Forest, however, are still likely to appeal if Palace are allowed to keep their Europa League place.

It’s believed Nottingham Forest have written to UEFA over the Crystal Palace Europa League ban.

With owner Evangelos Marinakis sending a letter to UEFA to express his concerns over Palace keeping their European slot – mainly due to missing the March 1st deadline.

Forest, along with Brighton, would be the two clubs that benefit the most if Palace lose their Europa League place.

With Forest, who are in the Europa Conference, moving up and then Brighton, who finished 8th in the Premier League, taking their place.
