Is WWE Hall of Famer Rob Van Dam officially retired? RVD sets the record straight on his wrestling status.
Rob Van Dam is one of the most recognisable professional wrestlers of all time, known for his high-flying, hard-hitting style.
With a career spanning over three decades and more than 1,800 matches across promotions like ECW, WWE, TNA, and AEW, fans often wonder: Is Rob Van Dam retired?

RVD’s most recent match took place on April 20, 2024, when he competed in a four-way elimination match on AEW Rampage against Komander, Isiah Kassidy, and Lee Johnson.
Since then, he has not wrestled in any official capacity, leading to speculation that he may have quietly retired.
However, according to Van Dam himself, that is not the case.

RVD Says He’s Not Retired 69479
In a recent interview on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Rob Van Dam confirmed that he does not consider himself retired and doesn’t plan to officially announce a retirement anytime soon.
“I don’t [think I am], and I don’t think I will [retire],” RVD stated. “That’s how I feel right now.
“I feel like even if I don’t take wrestling bookings anymore, I don’t think I’ll make a big deal out of retirement.
“Because when wrestlers retire and they end up coming back and wrestling anyway, it eats up the credibility that I had in wrestling retirement matches.”

Another key factor in RVD’s career decisions is his approach to wrestling bookings.
Rather than taking every opportunity, Van Dam prefers to protect his value and ensure that his matches remain special.
“I’ve always said I want to price myself out and not wear myself and my value down,” he explained.
“A lot of my peers, they were worth so much in their prime. Then they are not worth as much, can’t get booked as much. So they come down and compromise, and that has a cycle effect where they are worth less. But I’m not gonna do that.”
This suggests that RVD will continue wrestling only when the right financial and professional opportunities present themselves, rather than taking bookings just for the sake of staying active.
Although he has not been wrestling regularly, RVD is still involved in the wrestling industry.
He is currently signed to a Legends contract with WWE, which allows him to make special appearances for the company. He was recently in attendance for the 2025 Royal Rumble.

He also appeared on both SmackDown and NXT 2300 in 2024, further proving that while he may not be in the ring much, we may see him from time to time.

When asked about his future in the ring, Van Dam itted that he doesn’t plan too far ahead.
He acknowledged that discussions are ongoing about potential matches, even into 2026, but he remains flexible about his schedule.
“It’s been almost a year since I’ve had a match, and I do have some matches that are in conversation in the near future.
“People are talking about even a year from now. And I’m like, ‘Dude, I don’t even know if I’m going to wrestle a year from now.’ But stuff’s coming up that I can’t talk about yet.”
Ultimately, RVD is still open to wrestling and is carefully considering his options.

So, is Rob Van Dam retired? The answer is a resounding no.
While he has not wrestled in nearly a year, RVD has made it clear that he has no plans to formally retire.
