2024 World Darts Championship winner Luke Humphries threw a nine-darter for a second time within the space of a week at Players Championship 6 on Wednesday, pinning a perfect leg of darts against Andy Boulton in the first round.

“Cool Hand Luke” trailed 2-1 after the first three legs, but fought back with a 13-darter and a 14-darter to go 3-2 up in the match, before striking perfection in the sixth leg with a 177, a 180 and a 144 finish to a nine-darter.

It follows on from his first-ever televised nine-dart finish on night five of the 2025 Premier League Darts last Thursday.

Humphries went on to beat Boulton 6-3 to book his spot in the second round in Leicester.

At the time of writing, the world number one is through to the quarter-finals, having overcome Jitse van der Wal 6-5 in round two, Luke Woodhouse 6-5 in round three and Willie O’Connor 6-3 in round four.

Not only did Humphries record a nine-darter in Leicester on Wednesday, but so did Scotsman Alan Soutar.

“Soots” struck perfection, also in the first round, against Humphries’ Premier League rival Luke Littler. Unfortunately for the 47-year-old, it didn’t lead to a victory, as “The Nuke” pinned a 107 average to claim a 6-5 triumph.

Of course, Littler himself ed a nine-darter at Players Championship 5 on Tuesday afternoon, and so did Soutar’s compatriot and two-time world champion Gary Anderson.
