PSG Become the First to Match Celtic’s Historic Achievement with Champions League Win Over Inter Milan 5j398

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) claimed a historic 5-0 victory over Inter Milan in the Champions League final, winning their first European crown.
Beating the Nerazzurri not only made them the first French team in history to win the Treble, but also saw them match Celtic’s historic quadruple record of 1967.

Celtic’s unbeatable 1966/1967 squad became the first and only team in world football to win four major trophies in a single season. The Scottish side won the UEFA Champions League at Inter Milan’s expense, beating them 2-1 in the Lisbon final. They also won the Scottish Premiership — finishing three points ahead of Rangers — and both the domestic cups. They beat Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup final and Rangers in the League Cup final.
Since Celtic’s heroics in 1967, many teams have won the Treble, but none have managed to win four major trophies over the course of a single campaign. On May 31, Luis Enrique’s PSG ended the drought by claiming a record 5-0 victory over Inter in the Champions League final, and completing the set.

They beat Reims 3-0 in last weekend’s (May 24) Coupe de final to complete the domestic treble, having beaten Monaco 1-0 in the Trophee des Champions in January. ’s League Cup, the Coupe de la Ligue, has been defunct for five years now.

What Is a Quadruple? b1w1w
To become quadruple winners, a team must lift four trophies over the course of a campaign. For example, if a team wins the Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup and Champions League, they can proudly call themselves quadruple winners in the purest sense of the term.
However, if a team adds the FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup to the quadruple tally, football purists do not see it as a ‘true quadruple.’
What is a ‘True Quadruple’? 1bgp
A ‘true quadruple’ is when a team wins four major trophies — three domestic and the highest European honour — in a single season instead of a calendar year.
Celtic won the ‘true quadruple’ in 1966/67, claiming the Champions League (then called the European Cup), the Premiership, the Scottish Cup, and the Scottish League Cup. All four trophies came in 1966/67.
Since then, we have had multiple Treble winners, but no team had won the ‘true quadruple’ before PSG at the end of May.

Barcelona famously won six trophies in 2009, but they did not win four major honours in 2008/09. Real Madrid won the Supercopa de Espana in 2008, spoiling Barca’s quadruple chances. Next season, they won all trophies except the UEFA Champions League, again missing the ‘true quadruple.’
PSG are now the only team from the top five European leagues to have won the ‘true quadruple.’

Bayern Munich (2012/13, 2019/20), Real Madrid (2016/17, 2017/18), PSG (2014/15, 2015/16, 2017/18), Barcelona (2015/16), and Celtic (1966/67) have won the quadruple.
Only Celtic and PSG have won the ‘true quadruple.’

Before ’s League Cup, the Coupe de la Ligue, was scrapped in 2017/18, a French team could win the quadruple by claiming the Ligue 1 title, Coupe de , Coupe de la Ligue, and Trophee des Champions. PSG won this domestic quadruple three times (2014/15, 2015/16, 2017/18).
In 2024/25, they pulled off a ‘true quadruple’ win, having won the Ligue 1 title, Coupe de , Trophee des Champions, and finally, the Champions League.
