Former UFC fighter Chael Sonnen has revealed that Jon Jones vs Tom Aspinall is now OFF, with Aspinall instead facing Ciryl Gane at UFC 317 in International Fight Week.

Sonnen had reported earlier this week that Jones vs Aspinall was a done deal and that an official announcement was imminent, but has since backtracked on those comments and has now revealed that Aspinall will instead fight Gane in a defence of his UFC Interim heavyweight Title.

UFC President Dana White has been telling fans for months that Jon Jones vs Tom Aspinall will 100% happen next for the UFC Heavyweight Title.

Fans themselves have been crying out for the Jones vs Aspinall fight, insisting that it must happen next. However, negotiations seem to have taken a long time, with ‘Bones’ reportedly demanding upward of $30m to fight the Englishman.

Some MMA fans have even suggested that Jones is doing his best to duck Aspinall and avoid fighting him. However, earlier this week UFC analyst and former legendary fighter Chael Sonnen reported on his YouTube channel that the fight was officially a done deal for UFC 317 this summer.

That was then, and now there is a different story.

Sonnen is now reporting that a fight between UFC heavyweight Champion Jon Jones and the interim belt holder Tom Aspinall is now off.

It had been reported that the fight was signed, sealed and going to be delivered for UFC 317 in International Fight Week this summer in Las Vegas. However, Sonnen has now backtracked on those comments and has revealed that the fight will no longer happen.

Much to the disappointment of UFC fans, it looks like it could be the back end of the year before we get to see Jon jones vs Tom Aspinall – if at all!

With Jon Jones vs Tom Aspinall reportedly now off due to ‘Bones’ wanting to wait longer for the fight or perhaps demanding more money, Chanel Sonnen has revealed on his YouTube channel that Aspinall will instead fight Ciryl Gane.

The Frenchman is the #2 ranked contender in the UFC at heavyweight, just behind the champion Jones and interim champion/#1 contender Aspinall.

It is now being reported that Gane will step up and face Aspinall during International Fight Week at in the meantime whilst the Jones vs Aspinall fight gets pushed back even further.

“The current plan, right now, Tom Aspinall versus Ciryl Gane – Are you ready? For the interim championship,” Sonnen revealed on his YouTube channel.

“I’m here to tell you, according to a remarkably good source, Jon Jones is going to be afforded the ability to wait 180 days which is equal to six months which is what he asked for.

“Tom Aspinall is going to fight with Ciryl Gane, which was in fact on the table many months ago,” Sonnen continued.

“Then Ciryl was gifted a decision in a fight that he lost against [Alexander] Volkov. That’s the way the story happened. And now we’re going to defend an interim champion with the existence of an undisputed champion,” Sonnen concluded.

It looks like Tom Aspinall vs Ciryl Gane is now the fight for UFC 317, with MMA fans having to wait a little bit longer for the undisputed Jon Jones vs Tom Aspinall fight.
