Manchester United have unveiled £2bn plans for a 100,000 seater stadium to replace Old Trafford, which would make it the most expensive football stadium in the world.
Co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe described the project as the “world’s greatest football ground” and it is hoped to be completed within five years, as per Sky Sports.
Old Trafford has become outdated with a lack of investment and inferior facilities with a leaky roof and cramped concourses among other issues.
Should a new stadium be completed for £2bn as planned, it would move United’s new home to the top of the list in of the most expensive football stadiums in the world.
The current list without Everton’s new home at Bramley-Moore Dock. Everton’s new home pushed West Ham’s London Stadium out of the top 10.

10 – Krestovsky Stadium: £500 Million 431765
Starting the list of the 10 most expensive football stadiums in the world is Krestovsky Stadium in Russia.
The stadium was built ahead of the 2018 World Cup. It hosted seven games at the tournament including Belgium’s third-place playoff win over England.
Known as the Gazprom Arena for sponsorship purposes, it was originally supposed to host the 2022 Champions League final before it was moved to Paris due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The 67,800 seater which has a retractable roof and has been likened to having a spaceship design, is currently used by Zenit St. Petersburg.

9 – Santiago Bernabeu: £500 Million 376e
Real Madrid might be the most famous team in the world but their Santiago Bernabeu home is only ninth on the list of the world’s most expensive football stadiums.
It wasn’t one of the most expensive stadiums when originally built but their recent renovations in 2023 was worth £500m.
Big changes included a retractable roof, improvement of seating areas and new towers on the west side of the ground.

8. Estadio Nacional – £600 Million m3ss
The Estadio Nacional is next on the list after costing £600m to construct – though further renovations since it was built in 1974 are expected to take this figure up.
It seats over 69,000 fans and hosted games at the 2013 Confederations Cup and the 2014 World Cup.
It is the second-largest stadium in Brazil behind the Maracana and the venue also hosts concerts.
7 – Bramley-Moore Dock: £800 Million p1u5o
Everton will move out of Goodison Park and into their new home on Bramley-Moore Dock next season.
It was originally slated to cost £500m. However, papers submitted to the Premier League’s appeal board regarding their points deduction in 2023-24 revealed that the true cost was around £800m.
The 52,000 seater stadium will be a host venue for Euro 2028.

The next stadium on this list was built for the 1976 Olympics which were held in Montreal.
It was nicknamed the ‘Big O’ which refers to the shape of the primary part of the stadium roof. It was also referred to the ‘Big Owe’ due to the high cost of construction and hosting the Olympics.
MLS side CF Montreal has used the venue when demand for tickets justifies the 66,000 capacity. It is also used when weather restricts outdoor play at the nearby Saputo Stadium which is their primary home.

The most expensive Premier League stadium on this list is the home of Tottenham Hotspur.
Having opened in 2019, it is one of the newer stadiums in the list and it has a state-of-the-art design.
It has a 63,000 capacity and an interchangeable pitch to accomodate NFL games and concerts.

The Singapore National Stadium is another ground that cost £1bn after opening in 2014.
It has a 55,o00 capacity and is one of the most technologically advanced venues in the world.
