Jannik Sinner has officially begun his return as the Italian’s training ban has come to an end and he now prepares for the Italian Open.
The tennis star is now allowed to return to training with no restrictions, as Jannik Sinner begins to prepare for the Italian Open and his ban from the sport nears an end.
On May 7th-18th, the elite tennis players will head to Rome and compete in the Italian Open, which will be Sinner’s first major appearance since his ban.
Why Was Jannik Sinner Banned? 2v278
In February, the 23-year-old was handed a three-month suspension after coming to an agreement with the World Anti-Doping Agency over failing two doping tests in 2024.
The Italian first failed a drugs test in March 2024, as the results came back with signs of clostebol – which is a banned anabolic steroid.
In the months that followed, Sinner was cleared by an independent tribunal that believed the World No.1 was not at fault for this breach.
Sinner’s reasoning for having clostebol in his system was that his physio had used a spray that contained the banned substance to treat a cut on their finger and went on to massage the Italian tennis star.
However, WADA were not completely satisfied with this and eyed up a one/two year ban for the youngster, meaning the anti-doping company filed an appeal against the verdict.
The 23-year-old was set to be involved in a hearing during April of this year, however, Sinner and his team decided to agree to a ‘case resolution’ and take a three-month ban back in February.
Sinner would have to relinquish the 400 ranking points he earned at the 2024 Indian Wells, while also returning the prize money – before going on to win the US Open in September 2024 and the Australian Open in January 2025.

After agreeing to a three-month ban in February, Sinner will now be able to return in the near future and is able to step back on the court on May 4th 2025.
He has already missed some huge events this year, missing three Masters 1000 events in Monte Carlo, Indian Wells and Miami.
Some good news has made its way back into Sinner’s life, as the Italian is now able to begin official training after being limited during his ban.
The Italian was only allowed to use private gym facilities, private tennis courts and could not work alongside any professionally ranked players.
